Over-the Road Truck Driver
Summary
- You must be a responsible individual with at least three years’ licensed experience in driving a manual-transmission tractor-trailer rig with 53’ dry van trailers.
- You must be able to pass a background check, pre-employment drug test, and DOT physical. You will be subject to random drug testing for the duration of your employment.
- You will operate class 8 vehicles in a safe and professional manner, hauling loads up to 45,000 pounds (80,000 pounds gross weight).
- Your job will involve performing pre- and post-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer, maintaining regular communication with dispatch, notifying dispatch of any issues that arise, hooking and unhooking from trailers as needed.
- Your goal is to ensure timely pickup and delivery of all loads while following all company, state, and federal safety laws and guidelines.
- The hours required for this position will vary on a day to day and week to week basis. You should expect to be away from home two to three nights per week. This position will require occasional weekend work.
- You are expected and required to follow all Hours-of-Service guidelines.
- You will maintain daily records of miles traveled in each state.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Hold and maintain a Virginia Class A Commercial Drivers’ License
- Pass and maintain a DOT physical
- Conduct yourself in a safe and professional manner
- Comply with company policies and legal guidelines
- Operate your vehicle in a safe and professional manner
- Ensure that your vehicle is in safe operating condition
- Maintain accurate daily paperwork
Qualification requirements
- Proven experience as a tractor-trailer driver
- Good language and reading skills
- High degree of attention required to prevent damage to equipment and injury to others
- Good record-keeping skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Good driving record
Physical demands and abilities
- Ability to sit for long periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to adjust body position to bend, stoop, stand, walk, turn, and pivot
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and weather conditions
